The IN-Child Project is dedicated to supporting children who require inclusive education. Recognizing the diversity of children in educational settings, the project aims to ensure that every child can grow and develop within a community of peers. The term "IN-Child" stands for "Inclusive Needs Child," encompassing not only those diagnosed with conditions such as ADHD, ASD, and SLD but also children who, despite lacking formal diagnoses, face challenges in learning or daily life and require support. Additionally, it includes children who may temporarily need inclusive education due to their environment or other factors. The development of the "IN-Child Record" as a measure of a child's comprehensive educational needs has enabled us to provide appropriate educational support based on an analysis of the results of this assessment. The overarching goal of the IN-Child Project is to assist all children in leading better lives.
IN-Child refers to children who need inclusive education. This includes: Children diagnosed by medical institutions with conditions such as ADHD, ASD, and SLD. Children without formal diagnoses but who face difficulties in learning or daily life and require support. Children who, due to their environment or other factors, temporarily need inclusive education.
The IN-Child Record(ICR) is a tool developed to assess and support the needs of IN-Children. With the aim of providing a comprehensive understanding of children's educational needs, materials were extracted from a wide range of perspectives, not only in the field of education, but also in the fields of medicine, health, and welfare, and items were created based on previous domestic and international research.
The project also focuses on creating individualized education plans tailored to each child's unique needs. These plans are developed through analysis based on ICR evaluations to ensure that all children receive appropriate support.
The project regularly publishes research reports detailing findings and developments in the field of inclusive education. These reports aim to inform and guide educators, parents, and professionals in supporting IN-Children effectively.
For those interested in learning more about the IN-Child Project or seeking collaboration, the project offers various resources and contact options. Individuals can access learning materials, attend seminars, and reach out through the provided contact information.
The IN-Child project originated in Okinawa, Japan. A regional research group was established in response to the growing interest in the project within Okinawa Prefecture. Notably, the IN-Child Research Group in Okinawa has launched its official website to update on local initiatives related to IN-Child.
The IN-Child Project has published several books, including: "That Child is Not Developmentally Disabled: The Miracle of IN-Child": This book, written by Dr. Han Chang-wan, explores the concept of viewing the causes of children's difficulties in school age not as a disability, but as the educational needs of the child, which can lead to appropriate educational support.
All children in the world are unique; no two children are exactly the same.
Of course, some similarities may exist, but among a thousand children, there are a thousand ways of being—overflowing with diversity.
Likewise, their futures are also diverse, a thousand children holding a thousand unique dreams.
“We want to support children in envisioning diverse futures.”
With this aspiration, we have initiated the "IN-Child" project from Japan.
It is our dream to extend this initiative from children in Japan to those across Asia, and ultimately to children all over the world.
A great future begins by sincerely addressing the needs of the children who are right here, right now.
